Finally… Tomatoes

Finally… Tomatoes

After battling poor soil, and every creature this side of the Mississippi, we have tomatoes!  Ok…. two tomatoes!   We have success with what the critters don't like to eat  – peppers, chives, squash of all kinds. But for some reason,  we can not get a tomato inside before someone snacks on it. Apparently tomatoes in our yard are the equivalent to chocolate cake  –  gone in a jiffy!  I picked these a little early before they disappeared. They'll finish  ripening  up in the window sill for a day or two.

Here they are!  I like photographing fruits and vegetables on a white surface. It keeps the focus on the subject and really shows the shadows, highlights, and details.  These guys are now on my very long list of painting ideas.

Those tomatoes are gorgeous!  I had a terrible year in my garden.  I think I got one tomato and a few cucumbers.  You give me hope that it can be done!

  2. My garden was the worst EVER this year. I got a few tomatoes and cukes and beans/peas..never did get any lettuce to grow, that or something ate it as fast as it came up! So discouraging! Oh well..always next year. Thanks goodness my family's food source is not just my garden!

Glad to hear we were not the only ones having problems with gardens this year…. Well not really – wish you all had a great garden year! Our only saving grace was all that rain for 2 weeks that jumped started the tomatoes – and grabbing them off the vine as soon as they look even the littlest bit red! Here’s to a better garden next year!!

Those are beauties.  We did not have a good tomato year here.  I am comforted by the fact that our neighbors didn't either, so it must just be a bad tomato year and not my gardening skills.

  6. Delicious looking tomatoes!  I gave up on growing any kind of vegetables.  I'll have to stick with farmer's markets.

  7. Those tomatoes do look yummy! I wish I had planted a garden but I think the deer would probably eat everything.
Love the beautiful paintings below too!
