Pantone 2018 Color of the Year

Posted in Reviews

Yesterday Pantone released their color of the year for 2018 :

18-3838 ULTRA VIOLET

I get a kick out of their artist statement on the meaning of the color Ultra Violet:

“A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future…

…..Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets….”

As an artist, I like the medium tone and that is not a harsh, jarring color.  As a seamstress, I know my customers who go crazy over purple, will love anything made with this Ultra Violet.

I like this color. It’s a nice calm, shade of blue-purple that is not too harsh or too pastel. It would be a nice accent in any home, whether in a painting, on a wall, as pillows, or furniture.  It’s a color that looks good on most people as far as clothing goes.  There are so many people who love purple, I think Ultra Violet will be a big hit.

Etsy Wedding Registry

Posted in Art Work, and Reviews

Brand new to Etsy is a wedding registry. Very cool idea.  If you've poked around on Etsy, you know you can find wedding rings, custom wedding dresses, purses for the bridal party, invitations, hand decorated shoes for the bride and her bridesmads,  and much, much more.  You can also find just about anything you could imagine for the wedding, the reception and for  the home,
Here's the link for the registry

I had a chance to paint for a wedding from an Etsy customer and it was great fun!  A bride contacted me for a series of miniature paintings as gifts for  each member of her wedding party.   She and I worked out what she wanted and I got to work. What a creative and personal idea she had and I loved being a part of it!

For lots of information and ideas, here's the wedding page at Etsy.   And if you are on twitter, I see lots of excitement at #etsyweddings

And lastly, there are lots of real life Etsy weddings to read about here

Color Is Key For Children’s Art

Color Is Key For Children's Art

It's hard to miss all the great back to school sales! This is a great time to pick up some art supplies for your children at a cheaper price. However there is nothing more frustrating to a budding artist  than to have paints or crayons that only produce pale, faint colors.  The best children's art supplies have saturated color ie. color pencils  and watercolors that show show up boldly on paper.

Craonys

From my own experience as an artist and a mom, Crayola beats all the others hands down.  And they are still inexpensive, especially now with the sales. Crayola has done a great job with watercolors and color pencils that paint brightly with saturated color.  Their crayons are also full of color and not overly waxy.   This is a great time  to take advantage of the sales and get some great, fun, and on sale, art supplies.

My Favorite Art Magazine

There are a lot of art magazines for artists and art lovers.  By far my favorite is International Artist.  It is a fabulous magazine for artists that focuses on art  and art techniques.  No fillers, no activism, no politics,  just wonderful, fantastic art, artists, and techniques. I love reading about artist from around the world and seeing their incredible artwork.

International Artist Magazine

It comes out bimonthly and can be found on the newsstand as well as by subscription

From the February -March issue of International Arist

This is from the April-May addition of International Artist.   This spectacular pastel painting by Sangita Phadke is just one of the many featured artist and their work.
