Hi Everyone!
I am painting several small paintings to be matted for my portfolio at the Mall. One that I am working on right now is seashells.
I usually start with a rough sketch to decide on the composition. For this painting, I was able to use the shells to decide on a pleasing composition. The sketch is fairly rough and serves as a guideline for the painting. The rest of the painting is taking shape in my mind as decide on the composition.

When I am satisfied, it’s time to move on to the fun part – painting. I decided on a simple shoreline background with the shells as the stars. I start by laying in the mid tone background colors and use gesso to lay out the shape of the shells. There’s still time to correct placement, shapes, and colors if I need to.

Stay tuned to see the final painting!
