Daffodil Drawing, Part 1

Posted in Art Work, and Peeking Behind the Easel

The daffodils are in full bloom here in Pennsylvania! I love watching them open and turn up towards the sunlight. I had to stop and grab my pencils and capture their simple beauty.

The weather is still iffy with rain, so I took some photos as references to work from.  I start my drawings with  a very loose sketch with a HB graphite pencil of the basic shapes of the flowers and leaves.  For a small drawings, a clip board is a great tool to mount the paper on.

I worked with 4B, 5B, and 8B soft graphite pencils. 4B is my favorite because it is just dark enough to get great contrast in the details and still be able to lift it off with an eraser to create lighter areas.  I started in the negative space between the leaves to establish the darkest parts of the drawing, and began laying in the stems and leaves.  Stay tuned to Part 2!

New Smartphone Wristlets This Week

Posted in Sewing: Finished Bags & Pouches

All my private client orders are finished and in their happy hands. So now on to sewing and painting for my shops! This week I am adding new smartphone wristlets to SibStudioSewing and miniature paintings to SibStudio Etsy  shops.  If you are local, I am bringing in new miniature paintings next week to the CCAA mall gallery as well.
These are some of the smartphone wristlets that will be showing up at SibStudioSewing

These wristlets are large enough to fit the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy, as well as an iPhone 4.  They have a front pocket that fits a credit cards and id’s. The heavy duty velcro tab secures over the pocket opening to keep everything safe and snug.  They are an easy, all in one, way of carrying your essentials when you don’t want to be weighed down by a big purse.

Postage Increase

Posted in Uncategorized

New year and new postage rates. In ten days, the Post Office is raising their shipping rates.  Domestic US rates is going up  a little for stamps and more for priority shipping.  Priority Mail retail prices will increase an average of 6.3%.

However, International rates are skyrocketing. A 56% increase, yikes!  On January 27, the cost of mailing a small padded envelope weighing 2 ounces to Canada, will go from $3.15 to $6.15.

I  keep my shipping cost as low as possible and will continue to do so.  I will be slightly increasing prices on some items in my sewing shop ( SibStudioSewing ), as well as increasing the international shipping fees, next weekend.  Because I only ship  to Domestic US and Canada from my art shop ( SibStudio ), there will be a slight increase in some of my shipping fees only.  Thank you for your understanding.

Pheasant In My Yard

Posted in Reference Photos

Never know what will show up in the yard.  Last week brought a gorgeous pheasant!

Ring Necked Pheasant

We’ve never seen a pheasant hanging out around here. Taking a peek at allaboutbirds.com shows that they do actually live around here year round.  Who knew?

Rin Necked Pheasant

I like the way his white “collar” looks like the collar of a button down shirt. His face has iridescent green with a red around his eyes.

The markings on this back are so interesting. Comma like half circles on the upper feathers, and stripes on the lower. You can see the shine of the iridescent on the back of his head.

Here you can see the stripes on his tail and the great oranges and rust on his feathers.  Just a beautiful bird. I was able to take a fair amount of photos right through the window.  He will definitely show up in future paintings.
