Earthquakes and Hurricanes, Oh My!

Earthquakes and Hurricanes, Oh My!

So where were you during the Great East Coast Earthquake of 2011? If you're from the west coast or other places that experience earthquakes regularly, I'm sure you are rolling your eyes at the reaction of us on the east coast. But, earthquakes are rare around here and this one was really unusual in length of time and rolling movements.

I've not seen my house sway back and forth before. The attic and roof boards sure protested with a lot of scary creaking.  Looks like there was a little minor building damage around the region, but so far all is well.   I am crossing "experience an earthquake" off my bucket list – it wasn't on my list, but I'm crossing it off anyways –  that was plenty.

And now….oh my, here comes  hurricane Irene.   Heads up East Coast – last night the models had a direct hit at southern New  Jersey,  Philadelphia. This morning she's moved east and is looking as Cape Cod.  So keep an eye out on her, she can't make up her mind.

 What's next? Locust?

Stay safe out there.

Another Treasury

In addition to working on new paintings, I've been participating in the Etsy Entrepreneur Team Pay It Forward Challenge. It's a form of marketing to help promote shops and help increase store views, generate interest  and sales. There are some really wonderful treasuries being created and I thought I'd share one that featured two of my little paintings. Enjoy!

New Treasury

Hi Everyone!

I'm painting all week for clients.  I'll have some new paintings as well for Etsy and the local CCAA Exton Gallery shortly.  In the meantime my acorn & oak leaves mini was included in a lovely collection of Etsy shops in this treasury.   The handpainted silk scarf is just beautiful in up close photos.  Enjoy!

Thistle and Bee

Thistle and Bee

Hi Everyone!

I finished a new mini painting this week.  This painting is based on a huge thistle that was almost completely covered with bees and butterflies. I was struck by the fierce thorns loaded with delicate butterflies and tiny honey bees. Having had experience wrestling this extreme thorny plant from my yard, I normally view thistle as a terrible weed. Seeing it covered with dainty bees and butterflies gave me a different viewpoint of thistle. I wanted to paint the beauty that exist in this plant. I am pleased with how the painting turned out.

You can find this mini at my Etsy shop.

Signs of Spring

Signs of Spring!

I was pretty excited to find the first crocuses this week. In the warmer part of the yard where the sun shines most of the afternoon is where I found the first signs of Spring's arrival!

First Crocus Flower of Spring

As more crocuses and spring flowers bloom, I'll be outside with my camera and sketchbook to capture their beauty.
Hope you are finding the spring blooms as well!
