Earthquakes and Hurricanes, Oh My!
So where were you during the Great East Coast Earthquake of 2011? If you're from the west coast or other places that experience earthquakes regularly, I'm sure you are rolling your eyes at the reaction of us on the east coast. But, earthquakes are rare around here and this one was really unusual in length of time and rolling movements.
I've not seen my house sway back and forth before. The attic and roof boards sure protested with a lot of scary creaking. Looks like there was a little minor building damage around the region, but so far all is well. I am crossing "experience an earthquake" off my bucket list – it wasn't on my list, but I'm crossing it off anyways – that was plenty.
And now….oh my, here comes hurricane Irene. Heads up East Coast – last night the models had a direct hit at southern New Jersey, Philadelphia. This morning she's moved east and is looking as Cape Cod. So keep an eye out on her, she can't make up her mind.
What's next? Locust?
Stay safe out there.
So surprising all these earthquakes, glad you are OK. Yes, indeed, what next?:)
You stay safe over there on the East Coast! Can't believe what you've been going through this summer. Found you via the EBT. 🙂
Thanks Kala. Very strange with earthquakes in unusual places.
Hi Sarah – welcome! Hurricanes are a part of living along the East coast – earthquakes, not so much. This hurricane seems to be harder for them to predict where it’s going to land and how big it will be. I have family that live along the shore, so we’ll be watching carefully.
It was definitely an interesting experience, yesterday!
And now I'm thinking that day trip to Ocean City, NJ that we're planning for Friday might be preempted by Irene.. 🙁
Nancy – Yes it was! Hopefully Irene will wonder around for awhile more so you can enjoy a great day at the beach! Sometimes there is a nice calm before a hurricane and it would make a great day at the shore. Will keep my fingers crossed for you!
I'm glad there wasn't too much earthquake damage -stay safe through the hurricane
I'm sure it was scary! My daughter just moved out there a couple weeks ago and she's texting me at work when it was happening. So unexpected!
Thanks Connie!
Sher – They are very rare around here, which is why everyone is all hyped up over it. Now she may get a little hurricane residue – rain & winds – if the path hugs close to the coastline. If it does – the rain will smell a little like the ocean, even inland. My kids loved that when we got parts of hurricane Floyd a while back. : )
