Miss Kim Lilacs

Miss Kim Lilacs

I'm painting for a client this week, but I do have my camera out to capture what is in bloom.  Got to be quick with some of these spring flowers to get a good photo before they're gone until next year. The Miss Kim variety of lilacs are flowering with their heavenly scent permeating  the yard. They are a small lilac, getting about 3 – 4 feet in height at maturity. I have them paired near bigger, later blooming lilacs on the hillside, making the hill look like it's cascading with lilacs.  Enjoy!

Irises Blooming

Aren't these irises beautiful?!! They are blooming in my yard this week. I wanted to capture the colors and a close up of each for future paintings.  Enjoy!

Purple Iris

Love the purple. This would make a great photo to work from when painting.

Siberian Iris

This Siberian Iris came from my parent's yard, making it all the more special.

Yellow Iris

I love the being able to see the center and the vein lines in this photo.

Is It a Painting Or A Photo?

Is It a Painting Or A Photo?

I saw this incredible photo yesterday on the U.K. Daily Mail website. It was taken by Frans Lanting  for the National Geographic.  Is it a painting? Or is it a photograph?

See what you think:

Photo by Frans Lanting of Namib-Naukluft Park for National Geographic

From  the Daily Mail:  " Just a quick glance and you could be forgiven for thinking this striking image is a spectacular piece of artwork. But take a minute to look a little closer and you will see it is in fact a photograph – capturing the eerie camel thorn trees in Namibia's Namib-Naukluft Park in an entirely new light. Tinted orange by the morning sun, the soaring sand dune in the background gives the illusion of a painted sky."

You can find this incredible photo and more from the talented Mr Lanting  featured in this Daily Mail article.   Enjoy!

New Mini Paintings

I have two new mini paintings finished this week.  Both are on 3" x 3" square miniature canvases. I think the square shape highlights the flowers nicely.  Both can be found in my Etsy shop.  Enjoy the weekend!

Weigela Blooms

Weigela Blooms

May is a wonderful month for flowers in bloom here in Pennsylvania. I try to grab my camera and capture all of the blooms before they are gone until next year.  Ticks are the only things that make me hesitate before charging into the garden to get a great photo. Is there really any  reason for ticks to exist? Other than to gross me out….. This week the weigela are in bloom. The flowers are like miniature trumpets of pink. I just love the leaves on the 2 – 4 photos.   Eventually they will be featured in future paintings. Enjoy!

The above Weigela is the Wine and Roses variety

Aren't those leaves fantastic?!  They look like I took a paintbrush to them.
