Photographing mini canvases

Posted in Uncategorized

Hi Everyone!

I am finding getting good clear photos of my miniature art work to be a challenge. It’s pretty easy to get great reference shots and clean shots of my larger work.  The mini canvases are requiring more effort and creativity.  Selling in person and in a physical shop allows you to see exactly how small they are and all of the detail. Online, the photos have to convey the same thing. It’s tricky to get a good photo that doesn’t treat it like a large painting. The charm of the miniature painting is how small it is with all the tiny detail. Photos that treat it like a large painting are not flattering at all to say the least!

My daughter had a terrific idea of photographing it on a  1 inch grid  to convey the size.  That seems to be working.  I have  rigged a make shift light box with white art paper to keep the background clean. Photographing them on a little plate stand also allows me to get a little distance but still show the details.  See what you think:

There’s still improvements to be made, so I’ll keep working on getting better photos.  But for now, I think this works.  I’ll be adding more minis and more art work to my Etsy shop this month and getting ready to add more minis to Mall gallery next month as well.  And if you are in West Chester,  be sure to take a peek at my two paintings hanging in the Starbuck’s this summer.

Stay cool and take care!

August!

Hi Everyone!

August already!  This was one of the faster summers in this household!  Time to begin thinking towards the holidays. I’m pulling out photos I’ve taken, sketches I’ve drawn and buying some new paints to get started. Here is one of my favorite fall photos that may show up later on in my artwork:

I’m posting new things at Etsy every week, so be sure to check out my shop. I’m working on some wine glasses and a mailbox, in addition to mini canvases and larger paintings.

Thanks for stopping in and enjoy the day!

ACEO cards

Posted in Uncategorized

Hi Everyone!

Hope you are all staying cool!  Another hot summer weekend – thank goodness for air conditioning!

I’ve added something new to my Etsy shop:  ACEO cards. They are collectible  “Art Cards, Editions and Originals”, affordable small pieces of art.   The one criteria  for an ACEO is it must measure 2.5 x 3.5 inches.  Most ACEOs are two dimensional on paper.   These  cards are  fun to paint.  Etsy and Ebay host many artists selling ACEO cards. There is a  wide variety of topics and talent that makes checking out  the cards fun.

New business cards

Posted in Uncategorized

Hi Everyone!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!    I wanted to share some new business cards I had made.  If you haven’t heard of Moo cards –  they are great! They are all digital so you can upload as many photos/logos are you want, have them printed and sent to your home.  You can have a different photo on each card if you like. It’s a great way to showcase your artwork as an artist.    Email me if you would like some of my new cards.

Some of you have seen these, but I have a new set on the way with the Etsy shop address.  I will post those when they arrive.

Enjoy your week!

Pardon my learning curve

Hi Everyone !

Just figured out the obvious – how to correctly add a link.  The link is also on the side blog roll. Here’s the Etsy store link:

My Etsy shop: SibStudio

It’s been interesting to see the changes in technology in the time that I have been painting.  All my early artwork is on printed photos or slides. Now slide film is difficult to find and everything is digital and online.  Having a blog to update everyone instantly and an online store makes things so much easier!  The painting and photographing are the easy part. The learning curve for me is  posting online with all the bells and whistles – all the things that the kids seem to know by instinct!

I am continuing to add paintings to the Etsy store – so keep checking in .  Etsy is holding a web “Christmas in July” sale.  I am so new that I am just offering a white poinsettia painting with free shipping.  Here’s a photo:

Also –  for those of you who are local – I would be more than happy to change  the Etsy shipping fees to free  and arrange a local delivery.  Just let me know.

Enjoy the day and take care!
