Miniature White Lily Painting

Posted in Art Work, and Peeking Behind the Easel

Just in time for Easter, here is my newest painting! This pretty little white lily painting measures 5 x 3 inches. Perfect for tabletops, shelves, mantels and even an Easter basket.

The lily is painted on a gallery wrapped miniature canvas. It stands on it’s own, and can be wired to hang on a small nail or thumbtack as well.

I used reference photos from a trip to my favorite place to see flowers: Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. I took a number of photos of white lilies, and Easter lilies in full bloom. I just love the look of the soft elegant white petals against the dark green leaves. I used the same idea in this painting with the black background to recreate that contrast. I used layers of gray and white, and a touch of purple for the petals and blue greens for the leaves. This beautiful miniature artwork can be found listed on my Etsy art shop: Sibstudio.

New Gnome Paintings for 2022

Posted in Art Work

These adorable small paintings come from a series of gnome sketches I was doing for a larger painting. They were so much fun to sketch! I thought they would be fun to paint as their own little portraits. And they were!

I may work on a whole series of little gnome portraits because you can never paint enough gnomes 🙂 I will post the larger painting when it is completed and ready to be listed on my shop.

The 1st painting is a January winter gnome who is ready for the cold & snow.

The 2nd painting is a Valentine gnome, ready for his big day next week.

I used acrylic paintings on 3 x 5 inches gallery wrapped canvases. Both are sealed with a coating of acrylic varnish. They have a little hook on the back for hanging or they can be set on a shelf or mantle. Both can be found on my SibStudio art shop on Etsy

Celebrating Avocados

Posted in Art Work

My newest painting on Etsy

This is my newest painting on my SibStudio shop on Etsy. I had some avocados ripening on the counter. I was looking at them, noting their rich green color and bumpy surface. I decided they need to have a portrait painted of their avocado beauty.

Adding details for the bumpy skin of the avocado

I used a peachy beige for the background to keep the painting warm and inviting. I used greens, browns, yellows, and purples for the avocados. One of the avocados was nearby for reference and inspiration.

Looking good enough to eat!

The painting is finished and ready to be hung up in your kitchen or perhaps dining room! This little 6 x 6 inch painting can be found in my Etsy shop at SibStudio.

New Painting

Posted in Art Work

Some shameless self promotion today : )  I posted a new 11 x 14 inch painting yesterday.  I used some reference photos of daisies taken back in July.

Daisies by SibStudio

I was cutting back the very last of the daisies a few weeks ago and thought i'd like to capture them in all their summer glory.

I decided on painting a faux denim background to bring a nice country summery feel to the painting.  I got so involved in painting the denim look that I forgot to take a few photos.  I started with a light blue background and then dragged a loose mixture of navy blue across the canvas.  I ended up with a bit of a plaid look which I liked. After it dried, I lightly sanded the whole surface with sandpaper to give it a distressed look.  I painted a spray of daisies and a bit of vines to finish the look.  Here it is:

  And that's a peek behind my easel.   : )
