New Sling Style Backpacks Coming

Posted in Fresh From My Sewing Machine, and Peeking Behind the Seam

I’ve been working on sling style backpacks over the past weeks.

What I like about the sling style bag is that it is similar to a crossbody bag. It can be worn across your back or across your front. It has one strap connected to the top and can be worn on the left or right of the bag. The variety of ways to carry this bag makes it so versatile for any situation. It’s the perfect hands free bag.

This is the 1st of 4 slings bags the are completed and photographed. I love sewing this bag because it is a fun bag to sew, and the bag has so many pockets, compartments, and zippers.

The bag measures:  14 x 9 x 3 – not too big and not too small for day trips, hiking, busy moms, dog walking and everyday. This is Retro Style sling bag pattern from Kandou Patterns.

I liked the fun skier fabric and thought it would make a fun winter sling bag. I paired it with a dark teal blue faux leather for accents & strap. I used a white and gold snowflakes cotton for the inside of the pockets and the main compartment. The front zipper pulls both have a snowflake shaped pull. In the back, I used a regular dressmaking zipper so it doesn’t catch on your shirt or coat.

You can find this cute skiing sling bag on my SibStudioSewing Etsy shop. Enjoy!

Macaron Circle Handbag

Posted in Fresh From My Sewing Machine, and Peeking Behind the Seam

This adorable macaron circle bag is fresh off my sewing machine! I found this adorable fabric a while ago and set it aside because thought it would make a fun bag in a circle shape. At the time I had seen circle bags but they weren’t what I had in mind. Then one of my favorite bag maker pattern designers – Oro Rosa Patterns – released this fun pattern. I haven’t had time to make this bag until recently. And here it is!

The fabric is so adorable with pink, coral, green and brown macarons on a grey blue background. It is a cotton canvas that I found at JoAnne’s Fabrics. My 1st thought when I saw this fabric was a circle bag would be so cute and fun. It’s fun to see my idea come to life.

I paired the macaron fabric with a fun coral faux leather vinyl. I decided on rainbow hardware to make the bag fun and colorful. I had a fun circle smiley face zipper pull to add to the maracon circle theme – who doesn’t smile when they see a macaron!!

Of course I had to add polka dot fabric for the inside for lots more circle fun 🙂 There is a large zipper pocket as well as a slip pocket on the other side of the bag inside.

The bag measurements are 10 x 10 x 3.5 inches. The outer pockets on front and back of the bag are 7 x 6 inches – perfect for easy access to your phone and keys. The crossbody strap is removable and measures 46 inches. While it’s not adjustable, it is a good length for crossbody as well as a long shoulder carry.

This one-of-a-kind bag is perfect for your favorite macaron lover. It’s even on sale in time for Cyber & Christmas sales on my Etsy shop!.

Santa Tote Bag

Posted in Fresh From My Sewing Machine

Just in time for Christmas season!

I finished this adorable one-of-a-kind Christmas tote bag over the weekend! This is one of my own designs and I haven’t made one in a few years. I changed up the belt from cloth to faux leather to give it a realistic Santa look. I like it better now. I changed from sherpa to a wide 3 inches of faux fur. I think the fur trim takes the bag to the next level.

The belt and buckle are faux leather, as is the base of the bag. Red velour velvet and faux white fur just like Santa’s suit. 14.5 inches height, 12 inches wide at the base and 5.5 inches depth – a great size for work, school, carrying presents, and everyday fun.

Inside is lined with “Marry Christmas” and snowflakes in white on a bright green background. A large zipper pocket, and 4 5 inch elastic pockets as well.

The black straps are sewn into the bottom of the bag and all the way up the sides make the bag sturdy and helps prevent sagging in the bottom of the bag. Hidden inside is foam interfacing to give the bag strength and a touch of cushioning for you and your items. The foam also keeps the bags shape, even when it gets squished.

This great Santa Suit Tote will last you for years to come. You can find it here: SibStudio

Another New Mini backpack

Posted in Fresh From My Sewing Machine, Peeking Behind the Seam, and Sewing: Finished Bags & Pouches

I’ve finished another mini sling bag. These little sling bags are similar to backpack but have one strap to slide over one shoulder or wear as a crossbody bag. The bag can be worn on your front or on your back. I prefer this style because it is easy to reach the inside of the bag while you are wearing it.

I love the fabric used for this bag. It is a watercolor style flower print cotton. I love the colors, the choice of lilies, orchids, berries and splatters of colors on the background. I thought it would make a beautiful bag.

I add a stiff interfacing to the back of this cotton fabric so it is sturdy and holds it’s shape. There is also a bit of fleece batting to add a gentle cushioning and comfort for carrying this bag.

I love adding a fun zipper pull to the zipper opening. This bag has a little sliver butterfly. I thought it paired well with the flowers.

I used a cute white and pink floral cotton for the insides. There is a zipper pocket and a slide pocket for your phone, keys, cards, etc.

The back has a D ring on each lower side so you can chose if you prefer to carry it on the left or the right. The strap is adjustable to fit girls and women, as well as giving you the easy choice to adjust to crossbody or to shorten it for a over the shoulder sling.

I used the fun pattern from LindsHandmade: Mav Pack for this bag. I tweaked the pattern a bit to add my own touches to this mini sling bag. You can find this beautiful sling bag already listed on my SibStudioSewing Etsy shop. Enjoy!

Green Designer Tweed Bag

Posted in Fresh From My Sewing Machine, and Peeking Behind the Seam

This lovely green tweed bag is my newest bag. It’s a perfect sized rectangle shaped bag with top zippers. An adjustable strap allows the bag to be worn as a shoulder bag, or lengthen to a crossbody bag. I love the gold ring details on this bag.

The green tweed is a gorgeous designer tweed from Italy. It has a nice soft feel with a tight weave, making this fabric pleasant to touch as well as sturdy. I bought this fabric for a custom order and had some leftover. I thought it would be perfect for this bag!

I love the look of this bag and the size ( 10 x 7 x 4 inches ) is a great size – not too big and not too small. The tweed makes this bag perfect for work to evening. I used the Laverna pattern from SewYours for this bag. I create & use my own patterns for much of my sewing. However, there are some amazing bag makers out there recently & it is fun to try out their patterns and learn new ways. 🙂

In addition to the lovely gold ring details on the front, the back has a generous outer zipper – perfect for phones and keys.

Inside is a fun green, white, and black floral print. There another zipper pocket and 2 addition slip pockets as well.

This lovely bag is already posted on my Etsy shop . Feel free to take a look!
