Ironing interfacing backing

Posted in Peeking Behind the Seam

A peek behind the seams today. I’m bulk ironing interfacing backing to a new batch of wristlets and makeup bags. I cut out some more fall/Halloween items & today I am prepping them for sewing.

I use Pellon SF-101 for my interfacing. It gives the wristlets & makeup bags strength without a lot of bulk. This interfacing fuses with the fabric, giving it strength, so the final wristlet or makeup bag is sturdier and will hold up to everyday use.

The iron I am using is a Chi titanium ceramic. My last iron failed and my back up iron failed as well, – bad day for sure! I went on a trip locally to find an iron asap, and found this super iron. I didn’t know Chi made irons, but I figured since they make hair straightening irons, I’d try it.

Turns out I really like this iron. It gets hot, can handle being used for hours, and the ceramic plate doesn’t stick to the interfacing. or fabric. A really smooth ironing experience and it’s not heavy either. Not an endorsement, just my personal experience. 🙂 Enjoy your day!

Butterfly Sketching

Posted in Art Work, and Peeking Behind the Easel

Working on some butterfly sketches for a new painting.

I typically use an H pencil for sketches. It’s easy to lightly sketch out shapes & details, and then erase as needed. I erase a lot in my early sketches as I change my mind, or remove guideline shapes.

I have a canvas started for a butterfly & butterfly bush painting. I am reworking the background and deciding on which butterflies I will use in the painting. Right now my butterfly bushes have quite a few butterfly varieties as well as lots of bees. Lots of choices to consider!

Jungle Tote Bag

Posted in Fresh From My Sewing Machine, Peeking Behind the Seam, and Sewing: Finished Bags & Pouches

This awesome extra large tote bag is my newest creation. I love the vibrant colors of this fabric. The bag is a generous 16 x 12 x 5 inches – perfect for beach, work, daycare, travel, and everyday.

The print is very large on this fabric and the animals were quite spread out. Large pockets allowed me to bring the focus on the animals and still have some hidden animals around the bag. One side has a tiger pocket and the other side has the zebra pocket.

There is a zipper panel closure. I like the zipper panels because not only do they close the bag with a zipper, but they also let you open the zipper wide and use the bag as an open tote bag.

Inside is lined with green and white striped cotton fabric. A large zipper keeps your wallet and valuable hidden. There are large slip pockets and several more elastic pockets.

This beautiful & sturdy zipper tote bag is already posted on my shop. In fact it is on sale at the moment!
